In accordance with the New Zealand Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) seasonal measures for the Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB), NVOCC’s will begin with fumigation requirements for the movement of LCL cargo to and via New Zealand. This year MPI has established that the season will begin with vessels that berth at, load or transship from target risk countries from September 1, 2019 and that arrive in New Zealand territory by April 30, 2020. MPI New Zealand may extend the seasonal dates at their discretion.
MPI has strict protocols in place to stop the spread of Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB). To comply with these regulations, all LCL cargo shipped to NZ during the BMSB season will be fumigated with Sulfuryl Fluoride at 24 gms per cubic meter for 12 hours prior to loading on the vessel.
There will be a fumigation fee in addition to all other LCL charges and these fees will be included at time of quotation. Please note there may be some delays due to the fumigation process and we encourage all customers to build in additional time for this service. We recommend to book your freight in advance to allow for the additional time needed for fumigation.
We will continue to monitor any changes issued by the MPI and provide updates accordingly.
